The Allie & Elle Scarf Design Process

How does Ansley design her scarves?

Ansley draws with a pen or pencil (wink) or paints with watercolors (leopard patterns, plants and animals) original artwork based on what is currently inspiring her.

  • I have always loved a good leopard print and feel like you can wear it with anything! I loved the organic look of this pattern because it shows the subtle watercolor variations in the strengths of the black and tan tint.
  • The animals have always been designs that I loved because I like the combination of nature but making it unexpected with the bright colors. Like you would never find a pink zebra or periwinkle in the tiger in the wild but that’s what makes them so fun! I wanted to combine all my animals into one super colorful design.
  • I feel like this wink drawing is one of Allie & Elle’ s signature designs. It is one of the very first drawings I ever did when I was first starting Allie & Elle. It is based on Audrey Hepburn’s wink! I honestly feel like I could put this design on anything and everything! It feels like a good representation of the cute and fun personality of the brand. The colors of these 2 scarves are also perfect for our brand’s personality! Pink and orange is my mantra but the mint/lavender/blue is calming to offset the other design.
I took a lot of inspiration from iconic brand, Hermes
I worked with a private label scarf company in the states and her designer in Italy (don’t mention names) to create these four designs. I gave them my artwork and inspiration and they helped my vision come to life. I also went through the entire Pantone library to pick each color! Was so time consuming, but also so worth it!
I love that the scarves are made of silk and cotton (both organic (not actually certified organic) fabrics found in and on the earth. They are not manufactured fabrics - they are 100% real, soft, silky fabrics that have a beautiful and natural sheen.
  • The colors are so beautifully applied to the natural fibers in a way that makes the artwork look like it was painted onto the fabric. The fabric allows the colors to be vibrant, not washed out.
They are the perfect size to wear as a neckerchief, add to your bag, or wear on your wrist for a unique accessory! Even tie it around your belt buckle for some added color! Wear it as a headscarf for a super chic look. There are endless ways to use these scarves.
I’ve always been obsessed with anything French ( I took 4 years in high school and also studied abroad in Paris during college). I love French style and how they can effortlessly look so chic without even fixing their hair! One way they do that is by throwing on a silk scarf and some lipstick with their neutral outfits and effortlessly messy hair. The combo makes for the most quintessential French look. My love for this effortless style and anything French made for an easy decision in what to transition to after cards - scarves were a natural “Ansley” choice. If I could dress like a French girl every day, I totally would
